ERASMUS+ GOES GREEN
Green Erasmus is an initiative focused on the Erasmus+ Programme's environmental effects, namely the higher education component. Many of the young people who participated in events like Friday for Future in 2019 will soon be higher education students, and many of them will participate in an Erasmus+ exchange during the next programme session (2021-2017). It is critical to ensure that the programme is as eco-friendly as feasible.
Green Erasmus' goal is to increase the Erasmus+ Program's environmental sustainability while also contributing to environmental sustainability improvements across Europe. The goals are as follows:
* Reduce the Erasmus+ program's detrimental influence on environmental sustainability.
* To promote awareness of the significance of long-term internationalization in the European higher education sector.
* To encourage student organizations to act as change agents, advocating for environmental sustainability changes.
The outcomes that will lead to the objectives will include the following:
* Before, during, and after their activities, students employ more environmentally friendly forms of transportation.
* During their experience abroad, students learn to be more responsible consumers.
* Staff at the university is in favor of a "sustainable Erasmus" as a vehicle for environmental sustainability.
* Student organizations put sustainability at the forefront of their efforts.
Six project partners from Belgium, Germany, and the United Kingdom collaborated to achieve these outcomes. The above-mentioned outcomes will be achieved through a combination of a comprehensive Green Erasmus research report (IO1) on Erasmus students' environmental behavior, a Handbook for University Staff Members on Sustainable Internationalization (IO2), and a Sustainable Internationalization Educational Portal for Students, A petition to highlight the Erasmus Generation's major beliefs and expectations in the field of environmental sustainability (IO3), an educational framework to include environmental sustainability and sustainable skills in the curricula, and a Toolkit for Environmental Sustainable Outreach Activities that will result in numerous intercultural dialogues between international students and their local coworkers.
The project will reach 10,000 students via a student survey, 20,000 visitors to an online portal for sustainable internationalization, and 100,000 individuals via a social media campaign, among other things. In October 2021 and October 2022, the project's principal outcomes will be presented at two conferences in Brussels. From September 2020 to December 2022, Green Erasmus will continue for 28 months.
