How to Get Significant Student Travel Discounts

If you're between the ages of 12 and 26, you're considered a student traveller, and you're eligible for student transportation discounts. Student discounts are available so if you're planning a vacation, you'll almost certainly be able to save money. Find out which of the various options is the greatest fit for you.

Travel ID and Discount Cards for Students

There are several student travel ID cards available, such as the ISIC, which can provide student travel discounts on anything from travel to books and movies. Even though no student travel discounts are advertised, flashing a student travel ID card at tourist attractions across the world can often get you a student travel discount. If you're going on a trip, make sure you get a student ID card first.

Student Airfares Are Less Expensive

Student airfares are accessible to students under the age of 26 who are currently enrolled in school. In order to sign up for them, you'll usually need an email address from a college.

Student Discounts on Trains

A number of train companies provide discounts to students. Europe provides a very simple way for students to find and buy European train passes at a discounted rate.

Student Discounts on the Bus

With a Student Advantage Card, students can save 20% on their travel. The European bus services provide discounts, but they are mostly oriented toward student travellers, so they are already cost effective. Student discounts are difficult to come by, as hostels rarely provide discounts to tourists unless they plan to stay for an extended period of time (longer than a month.) However, hostel discount cards and promos are available throughout the off-season (i.e. winter in Europe).

Alternatively, if your budget is running low, but you like a bit extra comfort while you travel, housesitting could be the way to go. Housesitting is precisely what it sounds like: you get to monitor someone's house (and possibly their dogs) while they're out of town, and in exchange, you get free accommodations. As a student, getting on the housesitting lists may be difficult, as owners prefer to hire people who have experience renting or owning a property, but if you have excellent references, go for it.

Deals for Spring Break

If you're under 25, spring break is an excellent time to travel because many firms will offer student discounts for such month!

If you can't locate a package that appeals to you, you may put together your own spring break package combining student airfares and low-cost lodging, such as hostels.

Look for the label that says "Student Discount."

Before you take advantage of a student discount, ensure to do some research to see if it is truly legitimate.

Some student discount deals are simply regular-priced packages rebranded as "student specials." To see if you're getting a good deal or not, search around for the pricing to see what else is available.
