IELTS GENERAL TRAINING AND IELTS ACADEMIC PREPARATION
You will need to evaluate the time required for preparation ahead of your exam date, depending on your language level and the grades you desire. Make sure you know what grades you'll need. The ability to manage your time well can make all the difference!
If you have an intermediate level of English, it will take you about three months to get used to the IELTS format. Beginners may need to invest six months of preparation time or enroll in an IELTS exam preparation course.
Prepare for the reading section.
You will have one hour to read the texts and answer 40 questions in this portion. Advertisements, books, journals, and newspapers provide the texts for the IELTS General Training. IELTS Academic texts may include diagrams, graphs, or drawings. The most important thing is to learn to read a text critically and quickly absorb information from it. Spend the least amount of time possible on each question to avoid time consumption. For your preparation, read as many related materials as feasible. Learn to scan and skim texts to get the most information out of them as quickly as possible.
Prepare for the writing section.
Two tasks must be completed in one hour. You will be required to write a 150-word letter in a personal or formal style, as well as an essay, for General Training. The Academic edition contains a 150-word explanation of a graph, table, chart, or diagram, as well as a 250-word essay. Learn to recognize the lengths of 150 and 250 words in your own handwriting. Concentrate on producing concise paragraphs with a single core point. Make it a habit to set aside five minutes after you've finished writing to proofread your work.
Prepare for the listening section.
The listening segment is 30 minutes long and consists of four passages and 40 questions. If you don't comprehend some of the words, don't become disheartened. It's possible that not everything is important to answering the questions. Because there are no consequences for bad answers, you must concentrate, keep up with the listening flow, and attempt all questions. Learn to listen and take notes simultaneously. Many listening samples can be found on the internet, but try to listen to as much spoken English as possible.
Prepare for the speaking section.
The Speaking Test will most likely be taken on a different day than the other three portions. The test is conducted in the form of a face-to-face interview, and you will be asked to discuss issues that you are familiar with on a daily basis. Relax and practice speaking fluently. You can look up typical themes for this portion on the internet and practice giving the answers to the examiner. Inviting English-speaking people to converse with you in English is a good idea. You can also videotape yourself speaking and watch how you improve over time. The most important thing is to use the language as much as possible.
You can enroll in an IELTS preparation course if you are not a self-taught learner or if you believe you require a more structured study programme. Exam preparation English classes for both IELTS General Training and IELTS Academic are available at most language learning establishments worldwide. There are several wonderful options for taking an online preparation course if it is more convenient for you.
