In general, you're passionate about technology and you're thinking about a career in this field. But you hit a stumbling block: between Information Technology (IT) and Computer Science (CS), you don't know what to choose. Not the only one you are. This is one of the questions most often asked on the internet. That's because these words are used interchangeably by many people. But far from being the same thing, they are. There are distinct fields of IT and computer science, with a distinct emphasis, meant for different student audiences.

Jump in as we will explore the key distinctions between IT and Computer Science in detail. In the end, you'll know which one for your academic studies is the correct one.

Information Technology is concerned with the development, implementation, support, and management of information systems and computers. Working with both hardware (e.g. CPUs, RAM, hard discs) and software (e.g. operating systems, web browsers, Smartphone applications) requires information technology. Computer Science includes working with mathematical models, algorithms, and computational theory, data analysis and security. Each university needs to develop a curriculum that is focused on the government's general policies in that country. This is why not all study programmes in IT or CS are the same. But, with slight variations in their title or emphasis, you will find that many courses are the same, or at least somewhat similar.

It doesn't matter whether you prefer Information Technology or Computer Science when it comes to career prospects and salaries. As the demand for people with strong computing and digital skills is continuously increasing, both fields suffer from a shortage of skilled professionals. The need for well-trained workers is so high that major corporations such as Google have launched their own IT training courses to prepare almost everyone in this sector for work.

Since they lead to different occupations and have different specializations or subfields, there is no such thing as' better'. For your research, any discipline is a great choice, as long as you're passionate about technology, and you know what each study option means. You can rest assured with either IT or Computer Science that you will have a safe career, with a heavy salary that will only increase as time goes by and you gain experience. Remember the saying: the more you read, the more you learn, the more you earn.
