Lithuania is the southernmost and largest of the three Baltic States in Northeastern Europe.Before being part of the Polish-Lithuanian confederation for the next two centuries, Lithuania was a strong empire that controlled much of Eastern Europe in the 14th-16th centuries and is bounded by Latvia to the north, Belarus to the east and south, Poland to the southwest, and the independent Russian Oblast of Kaliningrad, and the Baltic Sea to the west.
