Latvia, which is officially recognized as the Republic of Latvia, is a country situated in the Baltic region of northern Europe with a democratic parliamentary system. Its land boundaries are shared by Estonia, Lithuania, Russia, Belarus and the maritime border with Sweden to the west. With 109 municipalities and 9 towns, it has a unitary government of 118 divisions for administrative purposes.
