46% of Int’l Students in France Were African in 2018-2019
France remains an important host country for international students coming from every corner of the world. Yet, its position has slightly changed since 2011 when it was listed as the third host country, as by 2017, France had dropped in the list, ranking as the fifth host country for international students.
According to Campus France data, France has a higher share of international students compared to Germany, Russia or the United States. The number of international students in France during the 2018-2019 academic year was 358,005 in total, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
In the 2018-19 academic year, France was the home of students who came from 196 countries of the world, 46 per cent of them from Africa, and one in four came from Europe.
In the same year, the majority of students – a total of 41,729 – came from Morocco, followed by 31,196 Algerian students, and 28,436 Chinese students.
As per French education institutions, the number of international students pursuing studies at French universities during 2018-2019 was 246,890, whereas 36,790 studied in the schools of business and management, 26,216 in schools of engineering, and a total of 10,313 international students were pursuing education in schools of art and architecture.
According to the Interior Ministry, in 2018, France issued 113,442 student visas including trainee, short and long term visas, marking an increase of 14 per cent over three years.
27 per cent of long-stay student visas were granted to students coming from Asia-Oceania and 22 per cent to students from America.
