79 new study places in nursing
The government has distributed 300 extra study places in nursing to 11 universities and colleges across the country. Most places go to UiA.
The need for more nurses is great. Therefore, the government will increase capacity by 500 study places from the autumn of 2022. Now 300 of the places are financed with fresh funds distributed. This means a total of 79 new places for UiA, 59 of which are funded by the government.
- This is fantastic news for the region. There is a great need for health services, especially for specialist nurses, but also for a bachelor's degree in nurses, says head of department Mariann Fossum at the Department of Health and Nursing Sciences at UiA.
300 of the study places will be financed with NOK 14.3 million in 2022. The money is distributed on the basis of feedback from universities and colleges on whether they have the right to increase educational capacity. The government has especially encouraged the institutions to prioritize education in specialist nursing.
- The pandemic has made it even clearer that we need more nurses and specialist nurses. We are now increasing the educational capacity at colleges and universities from Agder in the south to Nordland in the north, says Minister of Research and Higher Education Ola Borten Moe in a press release.
The remaining 200 places for the basic education in nursing, which the government has decided will be ready by the autumn of 2022, will be financed by the educational institutions themselves.
