All you need to know about France Student Visa
Got admitted a French university and you are excited to embark on a wonderful study abroad journey? Note, before you take your French dictionary and put it in your bag, figure out if you need a student visa for France and if you do, start gathering all the paperwork you need to figure out what you need to know.
You need to be certain where to study in France before you initiate the process of applying for a student visa. You can get a letter of approval required for the visa application after being admitted at a French university.
Figure out instead what kind of visa you need to work in France. Three forms that exist are:
- Schengen’ short-stay student visa – available up to three months. This form of visa is primarily for language classes or short-term research programmes. This is free, you do not require a residency permit so when it expires, you will apply for a new one.
- Temporary long-stay visa – available between three and six months; you will need a residence permit and you cannot renew it.
- Long-stay visa – available for the entire duration of your course in France (three years for Bachelor's, two years for a Master's and four years for a Ph.D.).
You will typically receive a student visa either through a French consulate in your city or by Campus France (an agency that supports higher education in France, with a central office in almost every country in the world). Some countries demand that you first sign with Campus France to get a student visa. This is also necessary to note that if you qualify for a university in France, you must have evidence of: French language proficiency-if you qualify for a degree in French (the approved exams are: DELF / DALF or TCF) or English proficiency-if you apply for a degree in English. When you have a letter of approval from a French institution, your research visa for France won't require extra language requirements from the French consulate.
And last but not the least, when you're looking to apply for a job position, be sure to let your boss know you’re an international student so that they'll just accept your application for a part-time job.
