Corona prevented chemistry professor Anja-Verena Mudring from using the travel budget from her VILLUM Investigator grant. Now she is using the money for the salary of a young chemist who has fled Ukraine.

She got 40 million. DKK for its research project in 2021, but the corona pandemic forced the project's international research team to hold video meetings instead of meeting physically.

Thus, she has saved a considerable amount on airline tickets. And when the influx of refugees from Ukraine increased, she asked the VILLUM Foundation to have the travel budget converted into a position for a Ukrainian researcher. And got a yes.
