VŠB - Technical University of Ostrava will elect a new rector for the period from 2021 to 2025. Candidates for the post of rector introduced themselves to the academic community on Tuesday, April 13, and answered its questions.

The meeting of the rector's candidates with the academic community took place in an online environment in the form of MS Teams. The main topics were the introduction of the candidate itself and the answers to the questions that the academic community had for them, which they could send before or during the meeting. 

If you missed the introduction of the candidates, it is available here . The current rector, prof. RNDr. Václav Snášel, CSc., Proposed by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics, the Faculty of Mining and Geology, the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Civil Engineering, and prof. Ing. Petr Noskievi?, CSc., Who was proposed as a candidate by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. The election of the rector will take place on Tuesday, April 27, 2021. The election takes place in secret and may be repeated depending on the result of the first round. To be elected, one of the candidates needs to obtain an absolute majority of votes from the total number of members of the academic senate. The winner of the election will take office from September 2021 for a new term. According to the Higher Education Act, the rector's term of office is four years and may be repeated a maximum of once without a break. 

The election of the university's top representative takes place in accordance with the Rules of Procedure of the Academic Senate of VŠB-TUO in a predetermined manner. It is elected by the members of the so-called Grand Senate, ie the Academic Senate of VŠB-TUO, which has 38 members and is made up of representatives of all faculties and university-wide workplaces. Each faculty has 5 members in the university senate, of which 2 are students. There are a total of 3 representatives for higher education institutions, university-wide workplaces and university study programs.
