EMERSON LABORATORY - CHEMICAL PROCESS AUTOMATION SOLUTIONS, INAUGURATED AT UBB

The Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of the Babe?-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca (UBB) inaugurated this week the laboratory «EMERSON - Solutions for the automation of chemical processes».
The laboratory inaugurated at UBB is the first laboratory dedicated to chemical process automation solutions, with the latest technology in the industry, inaugurated by the company EMERSON in a Romanian university and the first fully funded in UBB.
"Our university is committed to a world-class direction that the world's major universities have taken on, a direction that involves the permanent activation of all three basic academic components: the educational component, the research-development-innovation component, as well as the connection with the society / community. We have overcome that outdated mentality according to which only the university is the one that generates knowledge / innovation which it then transfers to society / community; we are aware that society can also come to us with innovative solutions, so that the relationship is a two-way and, finally, efficient. The Emerson Lab is an example of such a two-way relationship, serving all of the aforementioned academic components. I always try to remember that we are in the fourth industrial revolution, which has information as a main component, and the consequences are very closely related to cyber-physical interactions and complex automation. Emerson, as one of the global leaders in engineering / technology, along with UBB, a global academic university, are bringing together their contribution to the fourth industrial revolution, well illustrating the two-way relationship we need today. ”, said the rector of UBB, prof. univ. dr. Daniel David, on the occasion of the inauguration of the EMERSON laboratory.
In his turn, the dean of the Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of UBB, associate professor Dr. Gabriela Neme?, underlined that UBB had and continues to have “a beautiful collaboration with EMERSON, a collaboration materialized both in internship and internship programs for students, and, at this moment, through the full realization with EMERSON funding, of the laboratory which offers complete solutions for the automation of chemical processes ” .
Present at the inauguration of the laboratory, the general manager of EMERSON, Alina Negru, underlined the importance of collaboration with the university environment.
"For 15 years we have had a beautiful collaboration with UBB, in different segments, from financial services to topics such as computer science, physics and chemistry. Over the years, we approached several directions of cooperation, such as programs mentoring students and , trainings, summer schools, engineering bootcamps, and many other educational activities. I believe that needles st transfer of know-how between universities and students will motivate them, when done professionally to return to university and share in turn, the knowledge they have acquired a over time.", Added the general manager of EMERSON.
The collaboration between Babe?-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca and EMERSON will continue both from the point of view of laboratory operation and in the direction of initiating curricular programs in order to prepare students more efficiently and applied to enter the labor market.
