The Parliament and the Council of the European Union have agreed on rules to digitalise the procedure for Schengen visas.

The new regulation on the digitalisation of the Schengen visa procedure will revolutionise the way people apply for the document by introducing an online application system and replacing the traditional and current visa sticker with a digital visa, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

According to the Council, the main objective of this proposal is to streamline the visa application process and enhance efficiency. Moreover, by introducing new rules, the EU authorities also want to strengthen security within the Schengen Area.
