Recently, information that the EU is bringing back the Schengen visa requirement for the citizens of several world countries, in particular for Albanians, has been circulating in the online media.

The idea of a reimposed visa regime for the citizens of Western Balkans, including Albania, has received a lot of criticism among the citizens, politicians, and activists of these countries towards their government and the EU bodies as well.

In Albania, the fuss has been triggered by the former Prime Minister of the country, Sali Berisha, who has also twice led the now second-biggest party in the country, the Democratic Party of Albania, for a total of 17 years. Whereas, former PM Berisha himself, was probably misinformed by a considerable number of online media sharing information on the ETIAS scheme, which generally was false and misleading.

Berisha’s claims have immediately been refuted by Besart Bajrami, the founder of SchengenVisaInfo.com, who also notes that the news article that has been circulating in the Albanian media regarding the ETIAS, is not only a form of “marketing” by a particular company but also contains completely untrue information.
