Four universities and the Lundbeck Foundation put a turbo on Danish brain research and talent development with a new neuroacademy
With a program grant from the Lundbeck Foundation of DKK 187 million. The framework has been set for a new, ambitious growth dynamo for neuroscience in Denmark - Neuroscience Academy Denmark (NAD). The brick-free 'brain research academy' will promote talent development at the country's universities and pave the way for new knowledge and breakthroughs in brain-related diseases.
Diseases of the brain and central nervous system pose a constant - and cash - threat to our welfare society and health, and with an aging population, human and economic costs will only increase in the future.
And although Denmark is a good player in brain research internationally, there is a need to invest further with more funds and better education as well as attract more sharp brains to the field if Denmark is to occupy a more visible place in neuroscience's international super league in the coming years.
With the establishment of Neuroscience Academy Denmark (NAD), Danish universities and the Lundbeck Foundation are now taking a big step in that direction. NAD must promote talent development and secure the future of Danish neuroscience, which generally aims to strengthen the understanding of the brain, the central nervous system and the biological background for a large number of brain-related diseases - including Parkinson's, ALS, brain cancer, epilepsy, migraines, depression, schizophrenia, autism and ADHD. In order to increase the possibility of developing effective treatments.
