France Keeps Borders Open for EU/EEA Countries – Makes COVID-19 Testing Obligatory for All
pandemic back in February 2020 in Europe, after 527 French nationals died from COVID-19 on October 27, and about 3,000 others were in intensive care, more than half of the national capacities.
The decision was announced by the French President Emmanuel Macron, who also pointed out that starting from the midnight between Friday and September, France will go into lockdown, and among others, non-essential trips will no longer be authorized.
He also announced that the internal borders with the European Union area will remain open, while the external borders will remain closed.
The same was confirmed by the French Prime Minister Jean Castex on Thursday, who also emphasized noted that all arrivals would have to undergo a COVID-19 test in France, which obligation has so far been imposed for only some certain categories of travellers.Among the first airports to set up a new testing program alongside with the beginning of the lockdown is the Nice airport, where all passengers will need to undergo a COVID-19 test.
France has currently the highest number of Coronavirus cases in the EU, 1,331,984 as of October 31. The number of deaths has reached 36,565, with 116,533 recovered and 1,178,886 active cases.
