France Provides Free COVID-19 PCR Tests for New Arrivals

France has started offering free COVID-19 PCR tests for newcomers, as the country has begun lifting restrictions and decided to welcome tourists back this summer.

The Secretary of State for European Affairs, Clement Beaune, shared the news on Sunday, where he also said the move was necessary for the tourism’ economy, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

“We need, we want, in good sanitary conditions, to remain the leading European and world tourist destination,” Beaune also added.

He also said that France is the only European country to offer this option for its citizens, which will be further extended for tourists arriving in the country, starting from summer.

Several countries in Europe request foreigners to provide the COVID-19 negative certificates before entering their territory, with costs varying from €50-€300 in Spain, UK, Germany, and Sweden.

Furthermore, the European parliament is working to align travelling rules while asking the Member States to provide travellers with PCR tests for free or purchase them on a reasonable amount. Such a proposal is still up for debate, Beaune further said.
