Germany Prolongs Border Controls With Austria for Another Half Year
The German Ministry of Interior has decided to extend border controls with Austria, which were set to expire on November 11, for another six months.
The decision has been taken by Minister Horst Seehofer, upon an evaluation that border controls are still needed due to migration and security policy.
While most of the internal border controls introduced amid the Coronavirus pandemic have been abolished, some member states keep extending the existing controls every half a year. Some of these border controls have been effective since 2015 when they were introduced among the refugee crisis in Europe.
Aside from border controls, Germany has also in place a travel ban on all third-country nationals excluding only the residents of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Thailand, and Uruguay.
The list will be expanded to include Japan, South Korea and China as soon as the possibility of mutual entry is confirmed.
As per EU, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs updates its list of safe and high-risk EU countries, based on the recommendations of the Robert Koch Institution (RKI).
