Gold mine of knowledge about welfare and prosperity worldwide in new OECD report
How do countries worldwide differ in terms of prosperity? In which areas has inequality in society increased or decreased? And how are the Netherlands and other Western European countries doing compared to the US, for example in terms of education level or safety? The second 'How was Life' report, to be presented on March 25, provides important insights into these types of questions surrounding widespread prosperity. In addition to the ' How's Life?' publications that the OECD publishes every two years, the report shows how countries have developed over the past 200 years. Professor of Economic History Jan Luiten van Zanden external link is at the cradle of the series. 'Knowledge of the international experts in this field comes together here.'
Since 2011, the OECD, the international Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development , has published the 'How's life' study every two years, which examines the well-being of people in more than 40 countries worldwide. The publications show to what extent people's well-being improves in more than 80 different dimensions, such as health, income and well-being. In 2014, a historical interpretation was added with How was Life? Global Well-being since 1820 , which shows important developments over a period of 200 years. The sequel, New perspectives on historical global inequality, zooms in on new dimensions of prosperity and inequality, such as life expectancy, education level and extreme poverty. This report will be presented (online) on 25 March.
