Great interest in UiA's bachelor's education in e-sports
From the autumn of 2022, the University of Agder offers Europe's first bachelor's education in academic e-sports. Education has already aroused great interest around the world.
- The interest is huge. This autumn alone, I have received over 500 e-mails and telephone calls from parents and students all over the world who are interested. Many may consider taking education in a subject area related to e-sports, says Rune Andersen.
He leads UiA's new investment in bachelor's programs before academic e-sports. Andersen is an associate professor at UiA's Department of Information and Communication Technology at the Faculty of Technology and Science. The new study is an interdisciplinary collaboration between the Faculty of Technology and Science, the Faculty of Health and Sports Science and the Norwegian School of Management at UiA. E-sports spans more disciplines than technology. That is why cross-sectoral cooperation is important. The education is an international program with 15 places for students outside Norway. There are 40 study places in total.
- We have already received many applicants, and completely without active marketing. February 1 opens the window for applications, but we have already received many applications outside our core area which is Norway and the EU, says Andersen.
E-sports take place on a digital surface and through various channels. In this way, information is also disseminated without UiA actively doing anything.
- All information has spread orally from one to the other. We are looking forward to the students starting with us in August, he says.
Andersen also reminds that the application deadline for applicants outside Norway is 1 March. For Norwegian applicants, the deadline is 15 April.
