Budapest’s International Airport “Ferenc Liszt” has introduced new preventive measures that will be put in place as an effort to stop the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). According to “About Hungary”, the government has decided to make face masks obligatory onboard flights, while it also reminded to follow distancing rules, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports. The preventive measures have been introduced soon after the country introduced international travel restrictions, on Wednesday.

The passengers will be eligible to check their own luggage, from now on. A machine prints the baggage tag, which passengers fix to their suitcases and then place on the conveyor belt themselves. Hungary has classified countries into three categories, “red”, “yellow” and “green”,  based on their epidemiological situation and different restrictions apply to entrants. The classification of countries is in line with the European Union’s classification system, Hungary’s government’ website koronavirus.gov.hu stressed.

Rules for Hungarian citizens and their family members are different from those that will be applied for internationals. Hungarian citizens will be eligible to enter from a country classified “green”. Persons coming from “yellow” or “red” countries will be required to undergo a health check at the border and two weeks mandatory quarantine, unless they present two consecutive negative COVID-19 tests taken 48 hours apart, within the previous five days. Hungarians coming from a “yellow” country can leave quarantine after a single test, while citizens from “red” countries will need two negative tests.

Earlier this month, Hungary opened a humanitarian corridor, to help transit travellers who are subject to current restrictions imposed due to Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), the national police of Hungary has announced. However, Hungary rejected the EU Council recommended to reopen its borders for the countries outside the European Union, deemed as epidemiologically ‘safe’, except for Serbia. On June 9, Hungary abolished all border controls at their part of internal Schengen borders.
