International Student Visas in Lithuania

Lithuania has a long tradition of higher education, and offers foreigners a warm environment. More than 350 research programs taught in English are offered by a wide range of Lithuanian universities and applied science schools that international students may select from. These three degrees are offered at universities, while undergraduate and vocational certificates can be gained at applied science schools as well.

The school year: starts in September, concludes in mid-June and is split into semesters in spring and fall. Students can opt for full-time or part-time training.

 

Do You Need a Visa to study at Lithuania?

If you are a resident of one of 28 members of the European Union – you do not require a visa to study in Lithuania. When you are not a European Union citizen, otherwise you have to apply for a visa. Depending on the intent of your travel to Lithuania, there are various forms of visa available to this occasion. If you plan on going for a holiday, studying or working and permanently living in Lithuania, you will have to apply for a separate Lithuanian Schengen Visa accordingly.

What Kind of Visa?

In order to study in Lithuania you need:

National visa (D) is a visa authorizing an individual to enter and remain in the Republic of Lithuania for a term longer than 90 days. An alien who has been granted a temporary or permanent residence permit in the Republic of Lithuania shall receive a single entry national visa. A multiple national entry visa shall be issued to an alien whose stay in the Republic of Lithuania is for the long term in the Republic of Lithuania.

Temporary Residence Permit is a permit awarding the right of temporary residency to an individual in the Republic of Lithuania for the time stated in the certificate. Before you arrive in Lithuania you need to apply for both. You can apply to Republic of Lithuania at an embassy, diplomatic mission or consular post.
