Given the challenges of the circular economy, the reuse of treated water in technological processes is essential. Especially as the demand for water grows as the industry grows, so do the costs for water consumption and wastewater treatment. The scarcity of water as a natural resource is becoming increasingly important. Even now, residents sometimes face water shortages during the warm season, especially with increased watering.
Vytautas Abromaitis, the founder of Yaquatec and a researcher at the Department of Environmental Technology, says that the innovation they are developing is a technological solution based on the interaction of membrane and oxidation processes that can be applied to treat various types of polluted water flows.
"Synergistic interactions between the methods used result in a particularly high degree of treatment of contaminated water, including pharmaceuticals, phthalates and other priority pollutants. The treated water can be used to re-flush the toilet or water the lawn. The system allows water to be recovered as a resource, reused and thus reduce costs. In addition, it saves water resources, ”says V. Abromaitis.
Mindaugas Bulota, Head of KTU National Innovation and Business Center, was pleased that the innovations created by the start-ups incubated at KTU Startup Space are noticeable and appreciated.
"In the context of growing environmental problems, the development of environmentally friendly technological solutions is particularly gratifying," says Bulota.
