Master in Family and Community Nurse

The State University of Milan proposes a new nursing specialization course, closely linked to the new needs that emerged with the pandemic: tele-assistance, health promotion in the area and in schools are the peculiarities of the new first level Master in Family and Community Nurses .  The master aims to train health professionals who know how to operate in various contexts of extra-hospital communities, such as districts, general medicine clinics, residential facilities, schools, hospices, workplaces, clinics, penitentiary health, nursing clinics and home of the clients. 

The training objectives are aimed at identifying and analyzing the state of health and needs of individuals, the family and the community, intervening on socio-welfare and clinical priorities, promoting, planning and supervising the improvement of health through prevention activities and providing educational interventions. Through a planning of the territorial assistance levels linked to the social context.

The master is aimed at developing concrete professionalism and specialized skills in health promotion, disease prevention and proactive care of people with long-term illnesses / disabilities, in order to provide a response to people's health and care needs, of the family and of the community in the various stages of life.

These skills can be exercised in the operational areas of public health in which it is necessary to manage complex, continuous, timely and high quality assistance interventions. The functions provided can be used in the area of territorial assistance, in services that guarantee continuity of care and integration into the network of health, social-health and school services.

The master is divided into 4 modules, consisting of individual advanced courses that can also be used independently, aimed at enhancing the capacity of taking charge, of patient engagement and collaboration, in compliance with the respective skills, with the professional figures operating in the network regional health and social care. The courses that make up the master are: territorial surveillance and remote assistance, school nurse, assessment and reporting tools, family and community nursing.

With a view to encouraging the participation of students, almost all already workers, it is planned to use flexible teaching articulated with both face-to-face and remote lessons, in addition to the definition of professionalizing activities to be carried out in structures that already implement the activities presented in the forms.

The training course includes frontal didactic activities and other forms of learning, for a total of 500 hours, which will be followed by an internship period lasting 250 hours. The deadline for registration is October 6 (40 places available), while lessons will begin on October 25.
