New Procedures for EU Students Wishing to Study in UK from January 1, 2021
Starting from January 1, 2021, all European Union nationals wishing to study in the United Kingdom will be subject to different rules and procedures in order to study in the UK.
As the date when the current EU member – the UK – finally leaves the block approaches, the British authorities have revealed that students coming from the EU Member States will have to follow the same procedures as all international students in order to study there.
According to a recent guideline published by UK’s government, those who currently do not live in the UK or have rights under the Withdrawal Agreement by January 1, will need to meet some requirements in order to study in the UK. EU students must apply for a UK Student Visa at least six months in advance of the date when their classes start next year, by among others, paying a fee of £348 per visa application.
Paying the Immigration Healthcare Surcharge as part of the application, which gives the student access to the UK’s National Health Service (NHS), is obligatory. EU students who successfully complete their degree at undergraduate level or above in the UK will be eligible to apply for a Graduate visa. The latter enables its holder to stay and work or look for work for a maximum period of two years. PhD students can stay for an extra three years. The Graduate visa will open in summer 2021.
