Norway Introduces New Safer Passports
Norway has issued its first new passports on October 19 to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ine Eriksen Søreide and the Minister of Justice and Public Security Monica Mæland at the passport office in Ski.
The application procedures for a new passport will be carried out the same way as before, by booking an appointment at police.no. Those holding passports with enough validity left are not obliged to apply for the new one until their expiration date approaches.
Aside from a design that makes the passport safer, the passport also has details from Norwegian nature used both as a background illustration and a security element.
When the pages of the passports are placed under UV light, the reproduction of the Norwegian landscape will change from day to night, with, among other things, beautiful northern lights and clouds.
Its makers also claim that the new design creates a sense of belonging to Norway, no matter the age, gender, or region from where the passport holder comes.
By using illustrations of parts of Norwegian nature, from north to south, the creators have intended to show the contrasts in landscapes and climates that have shaped the country and its people.
