Students and commuters of Sweden and Finland will no longer need to self-isolate upon their arrival to Norway after the latter has decided to change quarantine rules for students and pupils of these two countries, Norway’s Ministry of Education has announced.

Norway’s Minister of Research and Higher Education Henrik Asheim stressed in a statement that the government has changed its rules so students and pupils would be treated equally with other workers who commute across the border, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

“We cannot risk that students have to finish their studies due to the entry quarantine,” the minister pointed out.

The statement also clarifies that employees who need to travel every day from Sweden and Finland to Norway, are also exempted from quarantine rule, providing that they undergo COVID-19 testing process at least every seven days.

The same process will be applied for students who live in Sweden or Finland and need to follow classes in Norway. Including those who attend Norwegian secondary schools.

“This means that students and pupils who were at risk of not crossing the border due to the entry scrub are now seen as daily commuters. There is no apparent reason to discriminate between students and employees in this context. So now the affected students can continue to follow the teaching and progress in their studies,” Asheim stressed.

Last month, authorities in Norway decided to enlarge the list of third-country nationals that would be permitted to enter the country, despite the current entry restrictions that are kept in place for the majority of the non-European Union citizens and residents, due to the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.

Norway’s Ministry of Justice and Emergency Preparedness, on September 1, adopted changes to the regulations on entry bans, which remain effective since March, due to the Coronavirus, so employees in humanitarian, non-profit and religious organizations could be eligible to enter the country.
