Researchers from prestigious European universities are discussing the role of the social sciences in tackling global challenges
On October 7 and 8, the Enlight network's web conference "Social Responsibility in Challenging Times" will take place, where renowned European researchers will discuss the importance of social sciences in changing times.
The conference will bring together university sociologists, political, economic, educational and legal scholars, psychologists and others from different disciplines and social sciences to discuss the state of democracy in Europe, understanding migration and segregation, and the challenges facing the welfare state.
According to the conference organizers, the social sciences have a responsible task to understand the functioning of changing societies, to support their adaptation and to change human behavior.
"The green revolution, the health revolution and digitalisation will not only change our living environment, but will also mean a significant adaptation to change. In order for these revolutions to be successful, we must actively reshape our behavior and world of thought, ”explained Lenno Uusküla, the chief organizer of the conference, Vice-Dean for Research and Development in the field of social sciences at the University of Tartu.
Maive Rute, Deputy Director General of the European Commission's Directorate General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, Hetan Shah, Executive Director of the British Academy, and Margit Keller, Associate Professor of Social Communication at the University of Tartu, will discuss the changes facing the 21st century and the importance of the role of the social sciences in the conference. . Numerous presentations and discussions focus on issues such as digital governance, the welfare state, gender, personality, productivity and segregation.
The Enlight network includes the University of Tartu, the University of Ghent, the University of Uppsala, the University of Groningen, the University of Göttingen, the University of the Basque Country, the University of Bordeaux, the Irish National University of Galway and the Comenius University in Bratislava.
