Steps on how to Apply For a German Student Visa
Posted date: 17 Feb 2020
For many international students, the process of applying for a German student visa can be confusing. The procedures are different from country to country, but below you can have a general overview of the key steps you need to take.
Here are the steps to apply for a German Student Visa:
- Locate The German Embassy or Consulate closest to you. To get more information about the requirements and to set up a visa appointment, you can use Google to search for an embassy or a consulate near you, in your country (or another country near you). Along with their physical address and contact numbers, all official German missions in other countries have an official website online.
- Study Protocols and Specifications. Once you find the German embassy website, you go to the student visa section to review all of your country's specific requirements and the procedures for setting up a visa appointment. Before setting up a visa appointment, make sure that you scrutinize all the information provided (especially the documents you need to have).
- Set Up A Visa Appointment. When you're ready, you can set up a visa appointment by following the steps outlined on the German embassy's official website in your country. In some countries, you should apply a couple of weeks in advance for your visa appointment as that particular embassy could have many visa applications, and they could take a longer time to reach you. Timing is really critical, often you will take both slots for student visa interviews so make sure you move quickly.
- Ready the full Visa Application Documents. Once you've confirmed your visa appointment date, you should double-check all of your documents to ensure you've got it all together. You can do this yourself and no outside consultants or agencies need to pay to apply for you.
- Prepare for an interview with your visa. You should pay the visa application fee (€60.00 – €75.00) and have the confirmation of payment with you when your visa interview is held. This fee is non-refundable on refusal of your visa. You need to check your country's currency exchange rate and pay the exact amount. You should prepare yourself for interview beforehand. After the interview is over, you will get the official response whether your visa has been accepted or not.
