The Board and Scientific Committees of the Academy of Finland and the Strategic Research Council were appointed - the University of Turku well represented
On 23 June, the Government appointed the Board and Scientific Committees of the Academy of Finland and the Strategic Research Council for the term of office from 1 January 2022 to 31 December 2024.
The University of Turku is well represented in the established institutions.
* Professor Klaus Elenius was appointed to the Board of the Academy of Finland.
* Professor Toni Kristian Laaksonen and Professor Marko Salmi (Biomedicine) were appointed to the Scientific Committee for Life Sciences, Health and Environmental Research.
* Professor Tommi Inkinen and Professor Heikki Silvennoinen were appointed to the Scientific Committee for Cultural and Social Research.
* Professor Anne Kovalainen was appointed to the Strategic Research Council.
The Board of the Academy of Finland decides on the general policies and objectives of the Academy on the basis of the objectives agreed with the Ministry of Education and Culture.
The Academy's scientific committees provide funding for scientific research and the development and utilization of research conditions. The committees are also responsible for monitoring the effectiveness and efficiency of research funding and promoting research together with other institutions of the Academy.
The Strategic Research Council funds long-term and programmatic research that provides solutions to significant challenges in Finnish society.
