On November 27, HE Ms Claire Lignieres-Counathe, the French Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Lithuania, and Jean-Marie Sani, Counselor for Culture, visited the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU). During the visit, the new ambassador met the University and Kaunas Clinics, the history, activities and future plans of both institutions.

Professor of the Latvian SSRU congratulated the French delegation. Remigijus Žali?nas was pleased with the areas in which the University is the strongest. The rector also spoke about the LSMU Gymnasium, the soon-to-open primary school, the kindergarten and the Emanuel Levine Center, a professional women's basketball team representing the University at Sports University.

Chancellor of the Academy of Medicine, prof. Daiva Rastenyt? emphasized that the students' interest in studies at LSMU does not work. "We are one of several Lithuanian universities, where the number of applicants is stable," the Chancellor asserted.

Prof. Daiva Rastenyt? also spoke about the growing internationalization of the University. "The number of foreigners is steadily growing. Last year this year it was 15%. first-year students were foreign citizens, "the Chancellor said, adding that even 12 study programs at LSMU are taught in English, and most of the students are from Israel, Sweden and Germany.

During his visit, the Ambassador emphasized the importance of integrating the international community. Dean of the International Relations and Studies Center prof. According to Ingrid Janulevi?ien?, the integration of foreigners is facilitated by mentors, a psychologist, as well as various programs for that purpose. "Students who encounter various difficulties during their studies can simply come to the Center for International Relations and Studies, and we help them," said the dean. "I think that what you do is very good," the ambassador was pleased with the university's focus on internationalism.

LSMU Vice Rector for Science prof. Habil dr Vaiva Lesauskait? introduced to the ambassador the main activities of the University - studies, science and innovations, practical activities. "The research area covers almost all medical fields," said the vice rector and told about the latest products from the University researchers - the Voice Screen gadget and the BASALIS cream line developed by the LSMU Pharmacy.

 

During the visit of the Ambassador to LSMU, the activities of Kaunas clinics and areas of international cooperation were presented. "We are the biggest not only in Lithuania, but also in the Baltic States. Over the course of the year, the Clinics have reached 1.3 million. patient visits. According to statistics, we are the third largest employer in Lithuania ", - said professor of the Kaunas Clinics general director. Renaldas Jurkevi?ius. According to him, already in 2019, the clinic will have a unique innovation - a gamma knife. It promises a breakthrough in neurosurgery.

During the meeting with the ambassador, representatives of the LSMA also spoke about other issues of relevance to the University: university reform, plans for updating small and large animal clinics of the Veterinary Academy, the Center for Nuclear Research and the construction of a new Faculty of Nursing. The connection of the LSMU with France is also discussed - the French authorities with which the University collaborates, as well as the emphasis of the LSMU Gymnasium on French culture and language, which is given the same attention as the English language.
