The University of Latvia announces the 2nd round of grant competition for doctoral students and applicants for a scientific degree

The University of Latvia announces the 2nd round of an open grant competition for doctoral students and applicants for a scientific degree with the aim of providing remuneration for doctoral students and applicants for a scientific degree in research work at the University of Latvia or partner organizations.

A doctoral student or a candidate for a scientific degree who is the author or co-author of published or accepted for publication full-text publications related to the topic of the dissertation may apply for the grant announced in the grant; a doctoral student or a candidate for a scientific degree who is ready to submit the doctoral thesis for public defense in order to obtain a scientific doctoral degree and defend it by 31 October 2023; as well as a doctoral student or a candidate for a scientific degree who participates in a research project as a researcher at the University or a partner institution at the University of Latvia (Silava); at the Latvian Institute of Food Safety, Animal Health and the Environment BIOR "; Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Center; Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis; VSIA "Pauls Stradi?š Clinical University Hospital"; VSIA "Riga East Clinical University Hospital"; Banking Institution of Higher Education or the Institute of Solid State Physics of the University of Latvia) or receives basic funding for research 30 percent of full-time.

It is envisaged that a doctoral student or a candidate for a scientific degree as a grant recipient will have an employment relationship with the University of Latvia or a cooperation partner during the project and will apply for financial support in the amount of 50 percent of full-time work for a period of 12 months. The amount of the grant is 1000 EUR (including personal income tax and social guarantees) for 50 percent of the workload. The beneficiary must be employed in another research project for at least 30 percent of the full-time workload.

Documents to be submitted:

* Application form for the grant competition for doctoral students and applicants for a scientific degree (Annex 1);

* A form with the work done in the doctoral thesis and planned with a time schedule in the quarters during the grant period (Appendix 2);

* Tender application evaluation form (Annex 3);

* List of publications, indicating the database and attaching full-text copies of the publications.

If the publication has not been published but has been accepted for publication, the publisher shall be indicated, enclosing the publisher's acknowledgment of its acceptance for publication and attaching a copy of the full text of the publication;

* Doctoral Thesis Manuscript;

* List of research works of students supervised by a doctoral student or a candidate for a scientific degree;

* An electronically or physically signed confirmation from the dean of the faculty regarding the doctoral student or the applicant for the scientific degree as an existing or potential lecturer at the University, indicating the study courses to be taught;
* A statement electronically or physically signed by the dean of the faculty or a cooperation partner regarding the participation of a doctoral student or a candidate for a scientific degree in another research project at least 30 percent of full-time;

* Certificate of completed doctoral study program (submitted only by the applicant for a scientific degree).

Registration of tender applications will start from the moment of publication of this announcement and is open for fifteen days until 18 January 2022. The decision to award the grant is planned to be made by February 21, 2022.
