This is how sunshine electricity is stored to order
Posted date: 27 Apr 2022
A research project at Chalmers is developing an energy system that can capture solar energy, store it for up to eighteen years and release it when and where it is needed. Previously, researchers have shown how energy can be extracted as heat. Now they have taken another step and managed to get the system to produce electricity. In the long run, the new technology can power electronics that charge themselves with stored solar energy - to order.
- This is a radically new way of extracting the sun's energy as electricity. We can produce electricity regardless of weather, time of day, season or geographical distance. It is a closed system that is operated without causing carbon dioxide emissions, says research leader Kasper Moth-Poulsen, professor at the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at Chalmers.
