UniTrento: New degrees make their debut
First day of classes today for the students of the Master's degree in Medicine and surgery, jointly established by the universities of Trento and Verona for the next academic year.
At the admission test, 48 of the new students had picked Trento as their first choice, which suggests a genuine interest in the new School of medicine. While works continue at Palazzo Consolati, the School’s headquarters, which will be ready in a few days, classes are taking place at Collegio Bernardo Clesio.
This however is not the only new course to make its debut this year at the University of Trento. There are also three new Master's degrees that, like the other masters, will be accepting registrations until the end of the year.
One of these is the Master's degree in Artificial Intelligence Systems at the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science, which is offered in collaboration with other departments and centres of UniTrento (Industrial Engineering, CIMeC, Faculty of Law).
The first lecture, with a welcome address to the new students, was held days ago at the Fabio Ferrari Science and Technology Campus in Povo. Entirely English taught, the course takes a multidisciplinary approach to train AI experts capable of designing and managing the evolution of AI techniques and technologies in different industrial sectors and in daily life. Advanced AI technologies are key to voice assistants in smartphones and home automation devices, self-driving vehicles, industrial automation and cutting-edge medical diagnostics.
At the Department of Sociology and Social Research, on the other hand, the classes of the first Master's course in Global and local studies (LM-62) started in mid-September. At least one third of the course's students come from out of the region and all of them have a background in sociology or political science. Teaching is offered both online and face to face, to better meet students' needs. The course aims to train individuals who are able to examine complex global dynamics and to understand how they impact on local, urban, regional or national contexts, using the qualitative and quantitative methodologies of political and social research. Students can choose from two tracks: policy advisor and project design for sustainable communities.
The international Master's degree in Security, Intelligence & Strategic Studies (IMSISS), established within the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree (EMJMD) programme with the University of Glasgow, Dublin City University, and Charles University in Prague, also attracted many students. And from the academic year 2020/21 the School of International Studies of the University of Trento will also be among the partners.
The course is focused on conflicts and security and explores topics such as terrorism and civil war, mass migration, the security of energy supplies, cyber security, new technologies and organized crime. Students will examine these threats and the strategies adopted by governments and international organizations to tackle them.
An integrated study programme that involves partner universities across Europe: Glasgow, Trento or Dublin, and finally Prague. Classes started days ago in Glasgow, while the first students of the "causes of conflicts" pathway will arrive at the University of Trento for the second semester.
