In 2021, the UvA established the Diamond Open Access Fund. The fund supports 'diamond open access' initiatives: publication platforms and journals that do not charge for publishing or reading. For new start-up, starting or proven UvA diamond open access initiatives, it is once again possible to apply for funding from the fund this year. The new round of applications closes on June 1, 2022.

The UvA Diamond Open Access Fund has two financing routes. €50,000 is available annually for both routes. This round concerns applications for financing from Route 2.
